About Us

Who We Are

TAILWIND was created from the Spectrum Speed team, which was formed with dogs from both Superdog Spectrum training centers in Calgary and Edmonton. However, practicing became difficult since both cities are 3hrs apart.  So following a disappointing tournament in New Serepta a bunch of us got together with the goal of practicing really hard and getting the dogs and handler to have a good time.

Our first team was formed with Daniele Barrell as Captain, Chris Barrell (Buddy), Ed Bereznicki (Arnold), Phil Gilkes (Meag), Trevor Flood (Eddie), Laura Flood as our box loader and Kari Kerr as our time keeper. We had three weeks until our 1st tournament and even though we came in last, there was net improvement in our passes and handler mistakes.  Since that time we have competed in numerous tournaments including Lethbridge, Abbottsford, Calgary, and Coaldale.  During these tournaments we received a lot of support and encouragement from our fellow competitors and decided that we wanted to develop our own Calgary based club.

In July 2002, TAILWIND Flyball club was officially formed with 14 dogs.  At our first tournament in Springbank,AB we were able to enter two teams (Tailwind and Tailspin).  The Tailwind dogs ran faster than they ever had before, achieving a time of 18.54 seconds.  Meanwhile, our Tailspin dogs in their first ever tournament ran great with several of the teammates earning their Flyball Dog Title.  This was a great beginning to a new club.

The team practices at the Superdog Spectrum training center, which is located at 510 77th Ave SE Calgary.  We typically practice every Sunday.  So if you are interested in becoming involved in flyball please send us a note and we'll introduce you to the team!
